One of many newcomers to the streaming scene, NBCUniversal’s Peacock has already established itself as a major force in the industry after launching in 2020. The streaming platform contains an impressive selection of Universal properties, rivaling other brand-exclusive streaming content such as the many originals of rivals Netflix, Disney+, and Max. As such, the best TV shows on Peacock rank among the most sought-after series, especially when it comes to comedies (although Peacock has many great shows across multiple genres, including dramas, mysteries, and sci-fi).

Peacock has two tiers of payment: the first level is Premium, which gives subscribers access to the full Peacock library but still contains ads. In order to get an ad-free experience, subscribers must pay for Peacock Premium Plus, a model that resembles Hulu’s tiered plan. Regardless of the payment tier, Peacock has a lot of quality shows to offer viewers, making sorting the best from the rest no easy task. Here are the best TV shows currently available on Peacock.

30 Rock TV Poster

30 Rock

Tina Fey’s absurdist comedy series follows Liz Lemon, the head writer of a fictional live sketch comedy show operating out of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, which is where the show derives its name. Loosely based on Fey’s experiences as a writer on Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock ran for seven seasons with a supporting cast that included Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, and Jack McBrayer.

Release Date
October 11, 2006

Cast

Seasons

Robert Carlock

Tina Fey is an A-list name when it comes to comedy writing, with hit movies such as Mean Girls under her belt. However, she’s just as renowned a presence on the small screen, both as an actor and a creative presence, and few projects showcase this quite as well as her hit show 30 Rock. During its 2006 to 2013 run, 30 Rock was continually critically acclaimed, nominated for a staggering 190 awards, of which it won 47 (including 6 Golden Globes and 16 Emmys).

The show is inspired by Tina Fey’s own experience leading the SNL writing team, and focuses on her character, Liz Lemon, who is a semi-fictionalized version of herself working on a sketch comedy series. Fey is joined in the cast by the likes of Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, and Jack McBrayer, among others. Similar to several other comedy shows on Peacock like The Office and Suits, 30 Rock is especially noteworthy for its incredibly slick writing, and it still stands as one of the smartest sitcoms ever made.

Ted (2024)

Ted TV Show Poster

Ted

Ted is a prequel TV series to the comedy franchise of the same name by Seth MacFarlane. The TV show brings MacFarlane back as the voice of the talking teddy bear Ted, who is growing up in the ’90s with John Bennett and his family. Ted is a Peacock original series that premiered in January 2024.

Cast
Seth MacFarlane , max burkholder , Scott Grimes , Alanna Ubach

Release Date
January 11, 2024

Directors
Seth MacFarlane , Brad Walsh , Dana Gould , Jon Pollack , Julius Sharpe

Creator(s)
Seth MacFarlane

Seth MacFarlane rose to prominence thanks to hit animated shows like Family Guy and American Dad, as well as his work on sci-fi series The Orville. However, he’s no stranger to the big screen either, and in 2012 he brought his brand of humor to theaters with Ted, a movie about a foul-mouthed talking teddy-bear. In 2024, he brought the property to his own personal roots on the small screen with the Ted series on Peacock, which serves as a prequel to the Ted movies — and is just as hilarious as subscribers would expect.

MacFarlane reprises his role from the Ted movies as the voice and motion-capture of the titular talking teddy bear, alongside Max Burkholder as the young John Bennet (Ted’s Thunder Buddy, played by Mark Wahlberg in the movies). The premise is relatively simple for those who’ve seen the films — Ted can’t be trusted to be left home alone, so he has to attend highschool with John. R-rated hijinks ensue, and Peacock subscribers who enjoyed the Ted movies or any of MacFarlane’s other works will feel right at home.

Resident Alien (2021-)

Resident Alien Season 3 Poster Showing Alan Tudyk Flipping Off UFOs

Resident Alien

A television adaptation of the comic book series, Resident Alien is a sci-fi comedy that stars Alan Tudyk as an alien who crashes on Earth with one mission – destroy humanity to save the planet. When Tudyk’s character takes the identity of a doctor, he arrives at a small town and begins to act the role preparing his plan. As time passes, he develops human emotions against his will – but his plans are further complicated when he meets the son of the mayor – who can see his actual appearance.

Seasons

Showrunner
Chris Sheridan

Quirky sci-fi comedy Resident Alien originally aired on SyFy, but has truly come into its own thanks to finding a new audience on streaming, and even among the many top-tier comedies on Peacock it manages to stand out. The show stars Firefly and Wish alumni Alan Tudyk as “Harry”, an alien who finds himself stranded in the small town of Patience, Colorado. After stealing the identity of the real Dr. Harry Vanderspiegle, “Harry” integrates into the local community and finds that he’d much rather settle down on Earth (instead of his original mission, which was to help destroy it).

Resident Alien is as heartwarming as it is hilarious, with Tudyk giving an incredible performance both as “Harry” and the real human Dr. Harry Vanderspiegle, who it transpires was also an assassin as well as a medical doctor. Tudyk is joined by an incredibly well-rounded ensemble cast, and it’s easy to see from the very first episode why the Resident Alien fanbase has grown with each passing season.

Community

Created by Dan Harmon, Community is a comedy series that follows a study group at an unorthodox community college where zany antics occur daily. When disgraced lawyer Jeff Winger is forced to enroll in a local college to get a degree and reinstate himself, he gets roped in with fellow students from different backgrounds, races, religions, and ages and reluctantly forms a study group. Together, these lovable misfits will navigate their school lives in some nigh unbelievable situations as they all try to figure out where their futures lie.

Joining the lineup of hit comedy shows on Peacock in 2024 is the cult gem Community, created by Dan Harmon. Originally airing between 2009 and 2014, Community has a hugely loyal following that has helped the show remain relevant and continue to grow a fanbase despite leaving the air a decade ago. The show derives its name from its Community College setting, and focuses on a group of adult students who find themselves thrown together in a study group.

The cast of Community includes the likes of Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Allison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown, Donald Glover, and (in earlier seasons) comedy legend Chevy Chase. With all 110 episodes now on Peacock, Community makes for the perfect comedy binge-watch on a platform that is stacked with hilarious shows, and with the Community movie reportedly on the way, there’s never been a better time for subscribers to jump on the bandwagon.

Modern Family (2009–2020)

Modern Family Poster

Modern Family

Modern Family is a comedy series that follows the unconventional Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker family as they redefine what makes a family in their modern age. Broken into sub-families, the three diverse groups shake up the nuclear formula with empty nesters, adopted children, gender neutrality, and more as they attempt to navigate the various pitfalls and comedic misadventures of their dysfunctional but warm-hearted family dynamic.

A classic example of a modern mockumentary, Modern Family follows a large dysfunctional family as its members navigate every stage of life. The audience gets to watch the kids grow up, understand sibling banter, and see heart-to-heart talks between parents and children of all generations that are always full of heart and humor.

The show successfully navigates the delicate balance between multiple competing storylines and characters, giving everyone the chance to enjoy the spotlight. Its 22 Emmy wins (and 85 nominations) are a testament to the series’ success and status as a modern comedy classic.

The Office (2005–2013)

In an unequivocal display of intent, NBCUniversal withheld the exclusive streaming rights to The Office once they expired on Netflix. Now, one of Netflix’s most-watched television shows ever is only available to watch on Peacock — a major draw for potential subscribers. The streaming service heavily advertised its acquirement for good reason.

Over 15 years after its debut, The Office is still ingrained in pop culture for widely popularizing the single-camera, mockumentary style that influenced later sitcoms, such as Modern Family. Many of the most successful modern comedy series owe a debt to The Office, underlining its status as one of the best TV shows on Peacock.

Suprisingly,
The Office
only won 30 of the 164 awards it was nominated for during its runtime — a figure that seems low considering its continued cultural impact and presence. These wins include a 2006 Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Steve Carell as Michael Scott.

Superstore (2015–2021)

Superstore TV Series Poster

Superstore

Superstore is a workplace sitcom following the employees of the St. Louis branch of a fictional big-box store. Cloud 9 sells everything anyone could ever possibly need, but its workers often leave much to be desired. Trying to organize their lives around the demanding world of retail work, Cloud 9’s staff more often end up having fun than they do working.

Release Date
November 30, 2015

Cast
Ben Feldman , Nichole Sakura , Colton Dunn , Nico Santos , America Ferrera , Mark McKinney , Lauren Ash , Kaliko Kauahi

Seasons

Anyone who has ever worked in retail or shopped in a store can appreciate Superstore, as it’s a rare workplace comedy where even the most exaggerated storylines feel true to life. On the surface, each of the characters seems to fall into two-dimensional comedic stereotypes, yet it soon becomes clear that both the protagonists and the series as a whole are much more nuanced than they appear.

Offering thoughtful explorations of different relationships that define the workplace — both romantic and friendly — Superstore is an extremely relatable show from start to finish. It might not be exclusive to Peacock, but it’s definitely one of the best casts of sitcom characters the streamer has to offer. Among the hilarious ensemble cast ia America Ferrera, starring in one of her best roles outside Barbie and Ugly Betty.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playist is a musical comedy-drama television series that aired for two seasons on NBC from 2020-2021. The show stars Jane Levy as software developer Zoey Clarke, who has the unique ability to hear people’s innermost thoughts in the form of songs.

An inventive and quirky comedy, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist is an extremely original take on the musical. The series’ titular character, played by Jane Levy, begins to hear people’s innermost thoughts and emotions, but not by reading their minds. Instead, Zoey’s insights manifest as though she were participating in a bizarre psychosomatic musical performance.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist has unique premise for a sitcom, and other series that have used similar ideas have only followed the concept for occasional standalone episodes. Here, it’s a lasting conceit that made the cancelation of the show truly heartbreaking for the audience — making its availability on Peacock a welcome relief.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist
won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming, making it a must-watch for dance fans among Peacock subscribers.

New Girl (2011-2018)

New Girl Poster

New Girl

Zooey Deschanel stars as Jess in New Girl, a comedy series that follows a group of twentysomething roommates in their day-to-day lives. When Jess decides to leave her boyfriend of seven years after discovering he’s been unfaithful, she finds a craigslist ad and becomes the roommate of three men around her age who desperately need to rent a room in their loft. Occasionally joined by Jess’ best friend, the group builds a quirky, dysfunctional family dynamic as they enjoy life in Los Angeles.

A bona fide comedy hit that only grew in confidence and creative scope with each season, New Girl was one of the most popular sitcoms on television when it was originally on the air. Deschanel stars as a young woman who moves in with three guys she finds on the internet after her boyfriend cheats on her.

Though the characters in New Girl are all in their 30s, the show is ultimately about growing up as they all enter serious relationships, have kids, and play many rowdy games of True American. New Girl earned five Primetime Emmy nominations and five Golden Globe nominations during its run and remains wildly popular years after its finale. The cast is led by Zooey Deschanel and Jake Johnson, who have both since gone on to have incredibly successful careers.

Exclusively available on Peacock, Parks and Recreation built on the success of The Office before establishing itself as a comedy great in its own right. Following the fictional employees of the Parks Department in rural Indiana, the series is extremely rewatchable thanks to its comforting, easygoing humor. Parks and Rec brims with optimism, its characters growing into supportive and empathetic people while they work within the confines of local government bureaucracy.

Beloved for its sweetly silly sense of humor, Parks and Rec provides some welcome light relief in what can be a cynical TV landscape. The ensemble cast of this sitcom on Peacock is also incredibly stacked with now-famous faces, including Amy Poehler, Chris Pratt, Nick Offerman, and Aubrey Plaza.

Saturday Night Live (1975-Present)

SNL Poster

Saturday Night Live

The longest-running sketch-comedy/satire show on television, premiering in 1975, Saturday Night Live is a weekly series that features new hosts for each episode, with a core cast of actors and comedians that rotate over time. Episodes feature several skits that are sometimes ad-libbed on the fly, with the hosts engaging in most of them, and also provide musical guest performances that cap off each night.

As is to be expected, given its improvisational premise, Saturday Night Live has had its ups and downs throughout its 46-year history. However, what’s beyond doubt is that the show’s highs rank among the most influential comedy ever produced.

The fact that the entire show is available on Peacock means that fans can see everything from Eddie Murphy’s original “Mister Robinson’s Neighborhood” sketches to Mike Meyers’ “Wayne’s World” skits to the original 1975 cast that included Dan Akroyd, John Belushi, and Chevy Chase. While SNL hasn’t always hit the mark, it remains a benchmark for American comedy that has shaped the genre for decades.

Saturday Night Live
has been running near-continuously since 1975 and is currently on its 49th season, making it the longest running sketch comedy show on American TV.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013–2021)

Brooklyn 99 Poster

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

From the creative minds of Dan Goor and Michael Schur comes Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a police comedy series set in the NYPD’s fictional 99th precinct. Headed by the comedically serious Captain Raymond Holt and protagonist Jake Peralta, the detectives of the 99 deal with burglaries, drug deals, and oddities in New York City, occasionally steering into real-world issues surrounding police perception and social concerns in the 2010s and earlier. Each detective has their own unique personality that makes them stand out, creating endearing dynamics that helped the show thrive for eight seasons.

Release Date

Cast

A sitcom instead of a police procedural, Brooklyn Nine-Nine goes a long way in making TV detectives more than two-dimensional grizzled puzzle solvers. Here, the characters are allowed to be as vibrant and eccentric as they would be in other workplace comedies — the difference being that the workplace just happens to be a police station.

The show also has some great central relationship storylines, Halloween heists, and some of the best cold opens in television history. Its availability on Peacock is a great incentive to subscribe to the platform.

Among
Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s
impressive slew of accolades are two Golden Globes in 2014, one for Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy (which went to Andy Samberg), and Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy for the show itself.

Based on a True Story TV Poster

Based on a True Story

Based on a True Story is a Peacock original crime thriller starring Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina as a married couple who starts their own True Crime podcast. Ava and Nathan Bartlett are expecting their first child despite marital troubles as their finances continue to plummet, and their decision to hire a charming plumber to install a new toilet leaves them stuck in a true crime story of their own.

Release Date
June 8, 2023

Seasons

Part thriller, part hilariously dark black comedy, Based on a True Story‘s unique premise takes a subversive look at the true crime craze that’s dominated the past decade. Cuoco and Messina play a married couple who come up with an idea for a true-crime podcast that will see them unmask a dangerous serial killer.

Although its concept is gruesome, Based on a True Story is frequently hilarious, drawing great comedy from its farcical premise. Following in the footsteps of hit shows such as Only Murders In The Building, Based on a True Story is a welcome addition to an ever-popular genre.

That ’70s Show (1998-2006)

That '70s show tv poster

that 70s show

That ‘70s Show was one of Fox’s most popular sitcoms upon its release in 1998. Starring Topher Grace (Eric Forman), Laura Prepon (Donna Pinciotti), Mila Kunis (Jackie Burkhart), Danny Masterson (Steven Hyde), Wilmer Valderrama (Fez), and Ashton Kutcher (Michael Kelso), That ‘70s Show revolves around the teens’ mishaps as they grow up in Point Place Wisconsin in the 1970s.

Peacock is home to many quirky sitcoms, but among the quirkiest of them all is That ’70s Show, which had a hugely successful 8 season run between 1998 and 2006 (and more recently, a failed spin-off in the form of The ’90s Show). As the title suggests, That ’70s Show is set in the 1970s and lambasts almost everything about the decade, from the fashion sense to the music and changing attitudes towards sexuality. Few sitcoms managed to do running gags or catchphrases nearly as well, either, which make this show on Peacock particularly rewarding when it comes to repeat viewing.

The central cast of The ’70s Show are a group of teens who usually hang out and smoke cannabis in the basement of Topher Grace’s character Eric Forman. Grace is joined by the likes of Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Laura Prepon, and Wilmer Valderamma, and in the final season, Josh Meyers. However, Eric’s parents are arguably the funniest characters on the show, with Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith’s Kitty and Red Forman being a hilarious depiction of 1970s parents.

Scrubs (2001-2010)

Scrubs

Scrubs is a Sitcom and Medical Comedy/Drama created by Bill Lawrence that follows a group of medical students throughout their daily lives at the Sacred Heart Teaching Hospital. The quirky medical comedy Scrubs is now available on Peacock and stands as one of the funniest shows in the library, and one of the most surreal for subscribers seeking a dose of whackiness with their laughs. Set at Sacred Heart Hospital, Scrubs follows Zach Braff as J.D., a medical intern and the narrator of the show. Scrubs follows both J.D.’s struggles as an aspiring doctor (and, as the show progresses, a fully fledged one), but also his love-life and interpersonal dramas — such as his perpetual rivalry with Nick Flynn’s character, the Janitor.

Often Scrubs will also include Family Guy-like cutscenes based on J.D.’s inner monologue and his daydreams, which add a dash of bizarreness to the medical comedy. The cast also includes Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, John C. McGinley, and Judy Reyes, with each of their characters being equally integral to the show’s many overarching plots. As well as a host of guest stars including the likes of Brendan Fraser and Michael J. Fox, Scrubs also featured far more highly emotional moments than most sitcoms, and many episodes will undoubtebly manage to shed a few tears from viewers.

2024 saw the arrival of one of the best, and certainly most harrowing, TV shows on Peacock — the Holocaust-set period drama The Tattooist of Auschwitz. Based on the novel of the same name by Heather Morris, The Tattooist of Auschwitz tells the story of Lale Sokolov, who is interned at the infamous concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau by the Nazis during World War 2. Told in part by an older Lale in the present (played by Harvey Keitel), the show documents his journey and role in tattooing the identification numbers onto the arms of incoming prisoners.

As is to be expected given the subject-matter, The Tattooist of Auschwitz is an incredibly emotive watch, though certainly one that will give Peacock subscribers pause for thought. The entire cast delivers incredible performances in bringing the story of real-life Holocaust survivor Lale Sokolov to the screen, especially Jonah Hauer-King as the younger version of Harvey Keitel’s character.

Downton Abbey (2010)

Downton Abbey (2010)

Set in the early 20th century, Downton Abbey follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the fictional Yorkshire estate. The series explores themes of social change, romance, and intrigue against the backdrop of historical events, including the sinking of the Titanic, World War I, and the rise of the working class.

Downton Abbey was such a cultural phenomenon that sitcoms from How I Met Your Mother through to It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia riffed on the sudden fascination with the British historical drama. Created by Julian Fellowes, who is also known for The Crown and The Gilded Age, Downton Abbey focuses on a family of aristocrats, the Crawley’s, and the staff of their Yorkshire country estate. The complex and intricate plots landed the show multiple awards, including a Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy.

Being set between 1912 and 1926 allows Downton Abbey to focus on the social impact of many historical events such as WWI, the outbreak of Spanish Flu, and the gradual collapse of the British Empire at the turn of the 20th century. These aren’t the main draw for many fans though, as the numerous (and often social hierarchy-defying) romances are undoubtedly what kept many viewers coming back for more — and a cast that includes the likes of Maggie Smith and Imelda Staunton certainly helped.

Perhaps one of the most watchable legal dramas released in recent years, Suits sharp script and colorful cast of characters have made it a smash hit. The show follows Mike Ross, a legal associate who talks his way into the profession by making use of his photographic memory. He is then taken under the wing of self-proclaimed “best closer in the city” Harvey Specter, with the show chronicling the pair’s adventures.

Boasting slick writing and a flair for unexpected drama, Suits has remained popular for years after its finale. The Suits cast have incredible chemistry, and also includes names like Meghan Markle and Katherine Heigl — though many attribute the show’s success to the incredible performances of Gabriel Macht as Harvey Specter, Sarah Rafferty as Donna Paulsen, and Patrick J. Adams as Michael Ross.

Does Peacock Have Live TV? Here’s Everything You Need To Know

Peacock has countless on-demand movies and TV shows available to watch. But does the streaming app also have live TV? Let’s dive in and find out.

One Chicago Franchise (2012-)

A trilogy of shows that takes a close look at life on the frontline of the Windy City’s emergency services, the Chicago franchise is an ambitious, multi-series story. Starting with Chicago Fire in 2012 before expanding to Chicago PD and Chicago Med, each series is a procedural in a particular department, following the lives of the people who work there and the cases they take on.

The shows in the One Chicago franchise all intersect with each other, sharing characters and arcs across the wider narrative. As a result, these first-responder dramas offer a uniquely comprehensive look at the field and are an incredibly immersive experience for Peacock subscribers looking for an extensive yet grounded franchise to sink their teeth into.

Yellowstone (2018-Present)

Yellowstone is the sleeper-hit Western drama about a family of ranchers who face encroaching forces seeking to take over their property has proven to be the perfect showcase for creator Taylor Sheridan. The premiere episode was the most-watched debut for any series on the Paramount Network, including under its former Spike name, and in 2018 Yellowstone was the most-watched scripted show on basic cable.

Sheridan, critically acclaimed writer of the thrillers Sicario and Hell or High Water, and John Linson of Sons of Anarchy fame are both no strangers to the Western genre, yet it is in Yellowstone where the pair’s gritty sensibilities and eye for compelling character development are given the greatest opportunity to shine. The phenomenal Yellowstone cast led by Kevin Costner makes the show one of the most gripping dramas of the last decade.

Kevin Costner received a Golden Globe for his
Yellowstone

The Law & Order Franchise (Various)

One of the most popular and long-running cop procedural media franchises, there are multiple Law & Order shows available to watch on Peacock. This includes the last 9 seasons of the original Law & Order, 4 seasons of Law & Order: Organized Crime, the past 21 seasons of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and all 10 seasons of Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Famous for its gritty, uncompromising view of police work, the franchise has become such an enduring part of pop culture that many more contemporary police procedurals still fail to escape its shadow. Subscribers seeking a show to binge-watch over a longer period of time need look no further, as there’s far more thrilling storytelling than can be digested in a single sitting.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air might have been a family sitcom in the 1990s, but Peacock has successfully reimagined the Will Smith show as a drama for the modern day. In it, Will (played in Bel-Air by Jabari Banks) is still sent to live with his uncle’s family when he gets into trouble — much like the original show — but the storylines are more serious with fewer moments of levity.

Incorporating elements of crime drama that weren’t in the original, Bel-Air has become one of Peacock’s most-watched original shows for its updated spin on some much-loved source material.

With his team of world-class doctors, House has built a reputation as one of the most brilliant doctors in the world – an especially impressive feat when taking into account that he rarely actually sees his patients.

A vehicle for Hugh Laurie’s powerhouse performance in the title role, House is a gripping mystery-of-the-week thriller revolving around seemingly impossible medical cases. When patients present symptoms that don’t make sense to other doctors, House and his team track down exactly what illness is causing it, even if they have to go through all the belongings in the person’s house to figure it out.

House himself is cantankerous and even outright mean, yet his brilliant mind and acerbic wit make him a charismatic antihero. While the show is arguably much more cynical than many other medical dramas, House is often blackly funny and successfully stands out from the crowd.

House
received a phenomenal 56 awards during its run out of 169 total nominations — including two Golden Globes for Hugh Laurie in 2006 and 2007.

While the streaming service is primarily known for comedy when it comes to its TV show offerings, Peacock also has some great modern sci-fi series too. Among these is The Ark, one of the most recent offerings from the NBCs’ genre-channel Syfy. The Ark has received mixed reviews from critics who perhaps expected a little too much from the show, but fans of the show on the Syfy network and Peacock subscribers alike are flocking to it in droves due to how deftly it walks the line between heavily cerebral and easy-watch TV.

The Ark takes place a century into the future. The Earth has become ravaged an uninhabitable, and so colonists are heading to the stars towards Proxima b, the planet selected as the new home of humanity. However, on their voyage, the technical crew of Ark One are killed during a catastrophic incident. This leaves the Colonists with the massive undertaking of piloting the ship themselves and keeping the systems running until they reach their destination. While this premise perhaps doesn’t do anything too unique, the episode-to-episode drama of The Ark has already proven to be more than satisfying enough to keep viewers coming back for more.

While it may not be as much of a household name as the likes of Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica, or as much of a cult hit as Firefly, the Australian-American deep-space sci-fi Farscape still has a devoted following and stands proud as one of the best sci-fi series on Peacock. Despite being released over two decades ago, the practical effects throughout Farscape still look incredibly impressive (even if the CGI moments are a little dated). However, where Farscape truly shines is its unique concepts. Farscape starts out with Earth astronaut John Crichton who, on an experimental flight, gets sent through a wormhole to the far reaches of the Milky Way.

However, Crichton finds himself not in unoccupied space, but at the center of an intergalactic war between most of the known universe and the evil (and somewhat ironically named) Peacekeepers. Crichton’s ship crashes into a Peacekeeper vehicle, killing the occupant and earning him the wrath of Peacekeeper captain Bialar Crais. All would be lost for Crichton if it weren’t for the intervention of the crew of Moya — a living ship — and he soon finds himself fighting alongside them as he seeks a way back home.

Save the cheerleader, save the world,” has become Heroes‘s most enduring contribution to pop culture, yet the show made many more significant contributions to sci-fi television than this single line. The first season of the series remains one of the best and most intriguing debuts in decades, expertly blending multiple storylines and setting up a potentially thrilling saga.

A Writers Guild of America strike in the middle of season 2 famously meant the creative team had to tie up loose ends quicker than they liked, and the decisions made there impacted the remainder of the series. Despite that, Heroes‘ central concept, of an event around the world causing sudden manifestations of superpowers, made for a great jumping-off point for the show and one of the great “what could have been” series on television.

Mrs. Davis is a Peacock original series from the creatives behind shows like The Big Bang Theory and LOST. Betty Gilpin plays Simone, a devout nun who finds herself at odds with modern technology as it clashes with her faith. Simone is resolved to destroy the world’s most revolutionary and powerful Artificial Intelligence in the world, Mrs. Davis.

A satirical look at the age-old debate between science and religion, Mrs. Davis is a gleefully entertaining sci-fi comedy. Gilpin stars as Sister Simone, a nun on a one-woman mission to battle artificial intelligence. Despite its singularly bizarre premise, Mrs. Davis never descends into total chaos. Instead, the show pushes its ridiculous comedy to the limit, keeping its characters relatable throughout.

It’s no surprise that the show boasts an impressive 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the best TV shows on Peacock.

The mystery thriller Apples Never Fall has been a breakout hit for Peacock in 2024, and it’s not difficult to see why. For starters, it’s based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, the creative mind behind Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers, and many more. Secondly, the cast — which includes Community star Alison Brie and Golden Globe winner Annette Bening of Death on the Nile fame — is incredibly well-selected, with each delivering a standout performance. However, what makes Apples Never Fall so watchable at its core is the shocking mystery.

Apples Never Fall is a slowly unraveling thriller that starts with the disappearance of Joy Delaney (Bening), a matriarchal figure in her family and the axis upon which their lives spin. The adult Delaney children must then piece together why she suddenly vanished, and along the way learn that their parents may not be who they thought.

A gently comedic mystery show revolving Tony Shalhoub’s eccentric detective, Monk is perhaps underappreciated for a show that ran for eight seasons. The series follows Adrian Monk (Shalhoub), who used to be on the San Francisco police force until his Obsessive Compulsive Disorder got in the way of his career. The series sees him as a consultant for the force as he goes into treatment for his OCD.

While he’s busy putting the puzzle pieces together for murder cases on a weekly basis, he also tries to take steps toward managing his OCD with the help of his assistant, as well as working on his wife’s unsolved murder case. Over the course of its run, Monk won eight Primetime Emmys and Shalhoub was consistently nominated for the Screen Actor’s Guild’s Best Actor. Funny, moving, and genuinely intriguing, Monk is one of the best TV shows on Peacock.

A modern mystery series that’s the perfect conduit for creator Rian Johnson’s signature style of storytelling, Poker Face is one of the best original shows to debut on Peacock. Natasha Lyonne stars as Charlie, a woman who can always tell when others are lying — a unique skill that gets her into trouble, but it also means that she’s able to see through the lies people feed her to unravel mysteries other people can’t.

Lyonne’s performance drives the show just as it did in her previous series, Russian Doll. Coupled with Knives Out creator Johnson’s clear passion for the genre, Poker Face makes the most of its clever central conceit.

Like Columbo, the quotable Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury) is considered one of the best TV detectives of all time. Whereas Columbo’s movie-length mysteries were a touch harder-edged, Mrs. Fletcher’s were considered “cozy” murder mysteries thanks to her living in a small New England town and writing murder mysteries about her experiences.

There’s no profanity, no gore, and rarely foul language, and yet Murder, She Wrote somehow manages to be a warm and fuzzy series that makes the audience feel good while they watch a woman solve murders. Lansbury was nominated for 10 Golden Globes (winning four) and 12 Emmys during the run of the show.

This cult comedy series about Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and his best friend Gus solving crimes together was one of Peacock’s first major acquisitions upon the service’s launch.Psych centers around Spencer, a detective with a near-super-powered photographic memory who uses his gift to convince people that he is actually psychic.

Creator Steve Franks has brought his characters back to television screens in movie form. Psych 2: Lassie Come Home was available to watch on Peacock’s launch day and was undoubtedly a major incentive for those who followed the show to subscribe. A third film, giving Gus (Dulé Hill) the spotlight, also premiered on Peacock, yet it is the original series that set the standard.

Charmed is a difficult show to pinpoint the genre of, as it contains elements of horror, fantasy, drama, comedy, and romance. However, since it balances all of these genres impeccably well, one thing that can’t be debated is that it’s currently one of the best shows on Peacock. Charmed amassed an incredibly loyal following during its 1998-2006 run, and was so popular that it even had a short-lived reboot between 2018 and 2022.

The show focuses on a coven of powerful witches, though ones who want nothing more than to be able to balance their lives as defenders of the earth from supernatural threats with leading normal lives. Fans of shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural will find a lot they love in Charmed. The show dexterously manages to weave in a deep and ever-expanding lore that puts many twists on classic fantasy/horror tropes with incredibly fleshed-out characters and plenty of teen drama.

Teen romance meets the supernatural in The Vampire Diaries. The show centers on Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), an orphaned teenage girl living in Mythic Falls, Virginia, who finds herself the object of vampire brothers Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore’s (Ian Somerhalder) affection.

While the central love triangle was an engrossing storyline, The Vampire Diaries also shines with its supporting characters, be they Elena’s high school friends or memorable wicked villains. The series was so popular that it spawned two spinoffs, The Originals and Legacies, that are both worth watching, though they don’t quite capture the magic of the original.

While it can be difficult to execute an effective horror concept on television, Chucky benefits from drawing on the mythology of the much-loved Child’s Play series. The show features cast members from the original movies as well as new faces to tell a whole new story that also connects with existing lore.

Chucky is a great love letter to fans of the renowned murderous children’s toy, but even those who haven’t seen every Child’s Play movie in the franchise can watch the show without being completely lost. This delicate balancing act makes the Chucky TV series reimagining one of the best shows available on Peacock.
